[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The Little Lorikeet (Glossopsitta pusilla) is an uncommon small (150mm) parrot found in open woodlands and forests of eastern Australia. They are usually found high in the canopy where they feed on nectar of flowering eucalypts. Occasionally they can be found coming to waterholes to drink, but they are very flighty and it’s usually difficult to get anywhere near them. Their flight is swift, often just above or below the canopy and the observer is first alerted to their presence by their high pitched, insect-like zit zit call. They breed from July to January, the nest being placed at the end of a small hollow limb in a eucalypt; 4-5 eggs are laid and both parents take part in rearing the young.
I was camping with a local birdwatching club near Barabra on the NSW northwest slopes. Several pairs of Little Lorikeet were breeding in the area and I found this nest hollow uncharacteristically only 3m from the ground. I thought, well I may as well have a go and see if they’ll come back while I’m there. Unbelievably, only a few moments after I stood near the tree, this one came back, called the other bird out of the hollow, then flew to this perch for a moment, then down it went into the hollow. I watched the hollow for a several hours over two days and got only four shots, this one was the best. I hope you enjoy it.
The image was slightly cropped and sharpened in Photoshop and resized for TN.

Pirate's bird hidding its treasure :-) Good subject but quality isn't best.

Interesting notes and good shot of the lorikeet in its natural habitat. Very well done

What a colourfull specimen Chris. Interesting pose. We have a similar one here but it stays in a burrow in the ground. There is an overall light "flare" in the shot. It not a bother just thought I'd mention it. Nice shooting...

Chris, the bird has beautiful colors. Besides, his "pose" is funny. To me, it seems he's looking for something. Nice POV.

So, you got the guided tour :) The composition is very good and I like the colors. You do have a bit of noise which I think NI can resolve.

Very well done and thanks for posting
