[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Today I present a Stout Vicetail (Hemigomphus heteroclytus), a beautifully coloured dragonfly that came closer and closer, eventually using my knee as vantage point to forage from. Of course with the telephoto lens on, that was far too close to take a shot, but a nice experience.
This species is found along slow moving small streams with exposed rocky areas and relatively still pools. They are a medium sized dragonfly with a wingspan of 80mm.
This is a male. They are uncommon and localised to their preferred habitat type.

Great shot of this beautiful dragonfly.
+++ The diagonal composition is very good.
I like the POV aswell.
Natural colours and great lighting.
--- It seems there's a smudge on the head and thorax so I did a workshop to try and clean that up... I hope you don't mind!
Great shot nevertheless.
Well done Chris,
Joe

Hello Chris,
Excellent picture of the Stout Vicetail dragonfly. The Sharpness, details, POV, colours and the lighting are all just great. I also liked the diagonal composition. Sometimes when you have a macro and you want to get close to these subjects they shy away from you. And when you had a tele Zoom , lo it came and perched on your knees.Nature!!!. Anyway thanks for sharing with us this beautiful picture.
Regards,
Smitha.

Beautiful shot!
Very nice details and colours!
Bye Tom

Hi Chris
Nice shot of this colorful Stout Vicetail. Maybe little soft but still good one.

Hi Chris!

After many TN photos of dragonfly in almost same pose this is something new for sure. I like POV and 'aggresive' pose very much. Also yellow-black colours look very good. Brown BG nicely complete composition. Very good work my friend!

Hello Chris,
the dragonfly is well captured in its natural environment.
Selection of focus plane, point of view and depth of field is just perfect. Optimal composition.
Best wishes, Peter

Hi Chris,
This is a great macro!
It's very good the close approach and proper focus got on the insect.
The composition made is so good, with the body and wings aligned along the diagonals.
Congratulations and thanks for share it.
My best regards,
JM

Ciao Chris,
so, per esperienza, quanto è difficile fotografare da vicino questi splendidi odonati.
Perciò ti faccio i miei complimenti per essere riuscito a fotografre così da vicino e così bene questa specie, che non conoscevo.
Grazie,
Marcello

Hola Chris, primero, gracias por tu amable comentario a mi fotografía.
Tu libélula bien captada y sobre todo bien encuadrada. Como siempre el ojo nos es un problema en este tipo de insecto jeje. Buena luz y colores.
Un abrazo desde españa: Josep Ignasi
