not really fussed on the crop here would prefer the whole bird to be in view, but are hard to get .

You show this interestingly patterned bird very well against the darkish BG. I love that great big yellow eye. I will soon upload a photo of a 'Spotted Dikkop' which is a close relative to this bird of yours.
Your composition is fine, the colours are natural, the details are well defined, and the exposure was well managed.
