[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is a Carpet Python (Morelia spilota spp mcdowelli), a highly variable python that is distributed over much of southeastern, southwestern and northern Australia. The species is thought by some authorities to actually represent several distinct species as and this colour form is sometimes known as the Eastern Carpet Python.
They live in moist eucalypt forest and rainforest where they prey on small mammals and lizards. They are usually terrestrial but can climb trees with ease and some prefer to rest in arboreal perches. They grow to a maximum recorded size of 4 metres, but this one was about 2.5 m long.
Some individual like this will allow you to approach quite close and show no fear or response, other individuals will his and strike without warning, so caution is always advisable. As with all pythons, they don’t have fangs, but they do have teeth and can inflict a painful bite.
Taken in Dorrigo National Park.

Hi Chris,
Fantastic shot. Wild python, this is a rare catch. Excellent composition, colors and sharpness. Is it you in the eye?

Very well composed head-shot Chris. Excellent sharpness, detail, color, DOF and light.
I like the eyes reflection I see of the camera guy ;-) So far, I've only shot these "dangerous" guys through glass. Hats off to ya! Well done.

Excellent. The eye looks like a water drop.
Thank you, Chris.

Excellent pose! Focus is so clear!
Very nice!
Great shot!
Thanks,
Dave

I am guessing here, that this was one of the individuals that showed no fear and went about his daily routine without hissing or striking Chris!

Details, colors, lighting, and POV are captured well in this composition.

Great job, thank you!
