[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The Freckled Duck (Stictonetta naevosa) is the rarest duck in Australia. It is a secretive species that prefers the densely vegetated freshwater swamps of inland southeastern Australia where it rarely ventures in open water. The exception to this rule is during drought period when freckled ducks are forced to move from their drying swamps to more coastal areas. In 28 years of bird watching I’ve only seen them half a dozen times and only been to photograph them once.
This one was shot at Shortland wetland near Newcastle.

Hello Chris,
From what you say in your note it is not surprising thet we failed to see the freckled duck during our visit to Eastern Australia. You've made a great capture, the duck showing sharply against the contrasting weedy water in a fine comp.
Nice to see!
TFS and best wishes, Ivan

Hello Chris,
This rare duck is beautiful and you caught him well in his green environment.
The "+++" : subject, POV, sharpness, DOF, colors, exposure, useful note...
The "-" : nothing...
Congratulations and TFS.

Hello Chris,
This is a very interesting specie that you caught with nice details and composition. I love its unusual beak a lot and this nice environment it's in. The only think missing is a little light in its eye but I'm being a little exigent here :) Well done with interesting notes about them. Congrats fro this rare capture. Thanks,
Claudine

Bonjour,
Cette végétation donne l'impression que le canarde nage dans du solide !
Bonne journée.

Thank goodness for our wetlands Chris. This is a lovely image of this beautiful rare duck. It looks great in amongst the weed that is growing on the surface of the water. Nice image.
Cheers,
Debbie

Hello Chris,
In all the years I've seen thousands of photos of different birds. But this is the first time I see a photo of this duck. Thank you.
The photo has beautiful colours, is sharp and a good POV and DOF.

Peter

Hi Chris, thanks to introduce to us this wonderfull animal, never heard of it...well done..

So we are looking at a fairly rare duck here, Chris.
Good capture from an effective point of view. The algae covered water surface gives the impression of solid ground and makes a fitting backdrop for the subject.
TFS.

Hi Chris,
A very nice natural shot. I like how the duck is moving the the duckweed, it reminds me of an icebreaker in the Antartica cutting through the ice. I cant wait to come over to Australia, it's so cool over there. :)

Hello Chris,
I called on Ivan when you posted this but forgot to comment myself!! A great shot to be proud of even though sharpness is not perfect but I expect you were quite a distance away.
Nice colours against the contrasting green plants floating on the water.
TFS and best wishes, Ulla
