Taken this morning whilst walking the dog in the park; there were a flock of Sulphur Crested Cockatoos making quite a noise in the trees above us. This pair seemed to be inspecting new accommodation, I wasn’t quite sure if she approved or not?
Sulphur Crested Cockatoos feed on seeds, grains, nuts, fruits, bulbs, roots, insects and insect larvae. They fly in pairs and in large groups, and make a very loud 'arch arch' type of sound especially when flying in flocks.
They can be destructive, chewing off large branches of trees (or wooden parts of a house), but are also very entertaining, exhibiting clown-like behaviour in the wild. Sulphur crested cockatoos usually breed at 4-5 years of age.
Males put on displays for the females in courtship, often performed during the process of nest preparation, which usually occurs in the hollows of large trees such as eucalypts. Often near water.
Workflow: Some cropping to remove branches on left. Slight increase in brightness and contrast.

Hi Rick, I like the composition on this one. It looks like some house hunting going on between the two cockatoos. The back lighting and pose on the left one is very good, giving us excellent detail and colour on his crown and wing. This portion of the light you've managed well, maintaining great control in the highlights. In the shadow area, I thought it was a tad dark. I'd like to see the tree better, and the right hand cockatoo. With this in mind I've created a workshop to provide you with another option you might want to try.
Thanks, John
Hello Rick,
Action is well captured!
I like how backlight plays with the feather coat and the nicely spread wings...
Good details and a pleasant composition!

:-) OK-
Lovely composition and well captured moment. Perhaps the contrast/brightness could be adjusted a bit, but I am never sure if my monitor and/or my eyes are deceiving me.
TFS, Mish
I wonder if this is a starter home for the couple? I like the back light through the feathers. Very nice. I am still jealous of the large variety of colorful birds you have there. I have been trying for a while to capture a photo of painted bunting. probably the most colorful bird we have in Texas...and the most rare.
