[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Had a very early and cold start to this mornings shoot, my wife and I went down to the Port of Brisbane, I had spotted a Osprey nest earlier in the week and was determined to catch something either coming or going.

Now I know this isn’t the best shot of an Osprey but shortly after we arrived and the sun had barely come up over the horizon, and only a short time after I had got my act together, this Osprey came flying across with a long piece of nesting material, (Work Shop Posting), stopped for a few seconds and disappeared again.

There was another Osprey in the nest that would stuck its head up now and again have a brief look around then disappear, so I assumed that this bird was having a Sunday morning lie in, (note to self “Sunday Morning Lie In”).

Now I have posted a Previous Image of an Osprey so please refer to that for details, and I would like to thank the Brisbane Port Security for allowing me to take pictures in that particular area, and my wife for the flask of tea which kept me warm.

Details; Shot Raw in the cold using a tripod and a cable release to cut down on me shivering, converted to Jpeg cropped and resized for posting. I also used a 1.4x Converter and a drop in polariser.

Hello Rick,
I didn't know the winters were that cold in Brisbane!
Great timing in this fine sharp capture of an Osprey taking off from its bulky nest on the top of a lighting post. The morning side lighting gives it an extra touch and the composition is just right.
TFS this beauty,
Ivan

What a huge nest the Osprey have made, Richard!
Despite challenging light, you have managed a good action shot of the bird landing on the nest. The bird is lit up from behind in the early morning light and stands out good against the pale blue sky.
Thanks and regards.
Ram

What timing, Rick!
This is a lovely shot!

Hi Rick

Great timing!! The light shining through the wing feathers is really good too. The shot also shows the massive size of the nest.

James

Hello Richard. This is really well timed shot. I like the landing style shot against the sky. Well done and best regards. Jusni

Hello Rick,
What a fine capture of this Osprey coming in to land on its huge nest! Great focus and I like the morning light on the wings. Clever timing and your determination paid off!
TFS and cheers, Ulla

Wow, Richard, osprey are a rare enough site in these parts that if it's at all the same where you are, the capture of the subject alone is a coup! In any case, what's really striking about this image is capturing the hover or take-off that you have here above the nest. Excellent timing and presentation.
Jim

Hi Rick,

I like this one, shows what the bird looks like very well, and shows that they do respond to us humans trying to give them good places to nest, like on top of light poles. ;-)

This species used to nest here in the Chicago area, but has been gone for a long time, and is now beginning to show up again as a result of people making places for them to safely nest and feed again. I've seen a nest on a radio tower here, so they do tend to pick odd places for their nests.

Thanks,
John
