This is a follow on from my previous post on the “The Harlequin Highway” we had a little infestation on our Hibiscus Tree, actually it’s not a tree more of a shrub but a very overgrown shrub, hence the trimming.

These little sap suckers suck the sap from hibiscus plants, bottle trees and other related species. They are also a minor pest of cultivated cotton; the females lay clusters of eggs around twigs and guard them until they hatch.

Thankfully in all the trimming we did in the garden we didn’t see any females, mind you having said that I have no doubt there out their, some were, watching, waiting, and doing what bugs do :o)

As always thanks for looking:

Fantastic close-up Richard,
that blue is incredible.. really nicely lit, no reflections but nice highlights.. well done
Gethin

Is this one which is associated family the shield bug? It has the same profile but most certainly not the same colours of any I have seen. Your chosen country is an unusual place as I have mentioned before..I think I might get a bit lost in all of the lore and stories...but your image is super fine...added to theme of blues!
Bob

hello richard,
what a beautiful and colorful bug you have presented us today, the image is sharp with good details and the metalic shine adds to the beauty, the texture of the leaf looks nice,
tfs & regards

Hello Richard,

The colors of the insect are so beautifull shown beeing saturated and vivid. There is a fine refelection of light on inesct's body surface and a good contrast with the leaf beneath. You have chosen a well adapted DOF and therefore most of insect's body is shown in good sharpness.

Thank yu for sharing,
Cristian

Hello Richard,

Good details have been recorded in your little blue friend!
Disturbing reflections are avoided in the shiny surface, and the pattern has fine colours and good sharpness...
The composition has a fine feeling of depth, the only minor issue is the near OE white background -

Greetings,
Pablo

Hi Richard,it's a very great pic. This bug is very very unusual and nice.I know how isn't easy to take so perfectly whit a lot of terribles reflections on the body. You make a fanatstic work, great pov too, thanks a lot for share, have a nice day,Luciano

Fantástica imagen, muy buena nitidaz y presentación.

Merhaba Richard,
Again a beautiful pentatomid bug captured from a favourable viewpoint with good exposure and a perfect choice of DOF, clearly demonstrating the characteristic metallic sheen of the body, together with that curiously big scutellar plate. TFS this fine image my friend.
Cheers,
Mehmet

Hi Rick,

It's nice to see a close-up of this bug after seeing the group on the "highway". The irridescent blue and red are just beautiful. Razor-sharp details of the entire insect. Fantastic macro!

Jane

Hi Richard,
Outstanding close-up shot of this bug with such gorgeous blue colour. Looks so different and so beautiful. Would love to have them on our hibiscus plant. Very neat and sharp image with perfect lighting and DOF. Excellent composition.

Hi Rick, I very much like the colour you have caught so well in this crystal clear macro. Good close up work and details shown. TFS. Murray.

Down at shellharbour NSW one day, I saw thousands of these and haven't seen any since! Great shot - congrats

G’day Richard Cridland Beautiful image. Excellent exposure, focus, detail, and DOF. Well done! so glad hes not that big in real life!! You have been prolific with your photos, me well been very busy @ work!!! but will be placing shots shortly
TFS Paul

Hi Rick,
From your point of view this doesn't even look like the same bug as the ones in my picture. This one looks much more angular and flat. Mine look like little round army tanks! I love this view though. The colours are fantastic. I have a very special pendant of melted glass that has much the same colours and shine as this bug. Thanks for sharing.
Sue

Your comment on Sue's picture led me to this lovely capture, Richard.
A very nice close-up macro with briliant colours and sharp details.
Regards.
