[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Over the years now since I’ve been living in Queensland I’ve been extremely lucky with the amount of wildlife especially birds that come into the garden.

On several occasions now I’ve been introduced to the young ones including Kookaburras of which I posted an image of quite a while ago now, baby butcherbirds, and Rainbow Lorikeets.

They never cease to amaze me the way they seam to stumble sometime when coming into land having only just achieved the flight feathers, and gained the right to fly, all be it a little rough in some cases.

Well a little while ago I was in the garden and a flock of Galah’s came in, now usually I’ll get a pair or may be if I’m lucky Two, well tonight was a little different.

Ten arrived and I got the impression it was a big night because one of the Ten was this little baby, now I use the term baby because that’s exactly what it sounded like.

It landed on top of the feeder (see w/s image) but slid off into the bush and started to howl and the rest of the group just look on as if to say come on pick your self up and dust your self off.

The Galah is one of the most abundant and familiar of the Australian parrots, occurring over most of Australia, including some offshore islands.

They form permanent pair bonds, although a bird will take a new partner if the other one dies. The nest is a tree hollow or similar location, lined with leaves. Both sexes incubate the eggs and care for the young.

There is high chick mortality in Galahs, with up to 50 % of chicks dying in the first six months, and they have been recorded breeding with other members of the cockatoo family, both in the wild and captivity. These include the Sulphur-crested Cockatoo, C. galerita.

Details; Shot Raw and converted to Jpeg, cropped slightly and re-sized, sharpened after re-sizing for posting.

Hallo Richard
One does not need a lot of words looking at this picture. Your eyes and your heart speak on your behalf. The eyes say: "To beautiful for words" the heart say: " I envy you being so close to such a colourful and unique looking bird". Stunning photography with everything right at the right place. I cannot find fault. The only fault I find is my lack of words because this is really beautiful. I cannot but place it into my favourites, especially because it has another attraction and that is the spots of purple in the background. Thanks for sharing.
Best regards
Anna

Hello Rick,
A great capture of a Galah in distress! :))
A fine composition with the Grevillia(?) flowers, taken from a great POV with excellent sharpness against a pleasing OOF natural BG. In short a fine shot of species we saw several times but didn't get to photograph well.
So thanks for sharing this beauty from your garden.
Cheers,
Ivan

Hi Richard,
What a fantastic picture!
Love the symphony of colours you've got here, the flower's yellow, the purple's at the background and of course the vivid greens.
These birds are just amazing, and you've made a great portrait of them.
Good to see the feeder on the WS.
My compliments and thanks for share.
Best regards,
JM

Galah parrot from your country is a novelty for me, Richard.
After reading your note, I have looked at it with deep interest and even though this one is just a baby, it already has some lovely colours on its body.
The picture is well captured from a perspective that gives a fine impression of this species of parrots.
I also like the plant/tree it is sitting on. It adds more colours to this composition.
Thanks for sharing the picture and best regards.

Hello Rick,
How marvellous to find these birds on your feeder! I really envy you! This young one looks very cute in the Grevillea bush with its punk hairstyle! The details are very sharp and the colours beautiful. I like the workshope too! Very nicely presented!

Hi Richard.

Perfect capture. Amazing colours. Thanks for all.

Rick,

Parrots at a feeder! LOL, forgive me but this sounds so exotic to me, especially with -20C temperatures and snow up to my knees just outside the window! Seriously though, you are very lucky to have such wonderful birds come to your backyard on a regular basis. I can see you are using this opportunity fully. Very nice work mate! TFS.

Best Regards,

Martin

hello Richard

A most unique color of parrot and very interesting capture of this nice pose on the slip off the feeder! It really makes for a good scenery among the leaves and branch of the tree instead of the feeder.

Good bokeh, sharpness and clarity.
