By selecting higher shutter speed and aperture values, you hace created an artistic image of this bird, Richard.
Thr light falling on the subject from the rear has given its outstretched wings a fantastic appearance.
Wishing you a Happy New Year,
Ram

Hi Rick,
this is an attractive photo and I like the way the light shines through the bird's wings as that glow is something I have seen many times before and have tried to capture but nowhere nearly as well as you have done. The pov is a winner and the details are good as I know how much can be lost to shadows with lighting of this sort, you pulled of a very good image and thank you for sharing it with us.Have a great new year and keep on getting those wildlife shots that show how special life is here on our good old world. Hello Rick
A wonderful POV for this Ibis as it warms it's wings in the sun.
The detail of the plumage is terrific as we get a translucent view of the feathers.
Nicely composed in the frame.

Hello Rick,
Nice timing to get this pose of the Australian Ibis as it has landed on the top of the dead branch. Most of all I like the side lighting and the way it shines through the whiter parts of the wings against a fine blue sky. Well composed too.
TFS this delight,
Cheers,
Ivan
hello Richard
My 1st visit to your gallery.
The ibis is a large bird! Shooting against the light, I can see the challenge you faced with the light under the body here, losing a bit of detail especially on the head too.
I am a bit puzzled about your f/10 and ISO500, perhaps it is to avoid hand blur at 1/1000s? Filesize 96kb would result in any compression loss? But I can see you have a good lens of 500mm f/2.8 IS for this shoot, and the result of your capture is well done.
I find the shot so interesting that I woulddo a workshop here to just to see the bird in another way and hope you will not mind. Thank you for sharing this great photo.
Very informative note, I must say.
Greetings from Malaysia.

Great photo. Very simple composition, but very effective. You chose the right moment to get a good attitude with the wings slightly open. Can't help wondering wether the branch is going to hold out.

WOW!! Perfect timing Rick. The pose, the backlit wings, the blue sky and the perch all makes this picture a beautiful one.You have done well in freezing the moment.
Thanks for the share,
Smitha.
