This spider was on the outside of my lounge room window. So this photo is taken through glass.
I have made the frame to hide the spots that were on the window near the spider's legs. I could not change the background because of the web.
I have adjusted levels, sharpened and resized for posting.

Interesting post Jeanne.
The spider is blur. The EOS 400 can makes much sharper shots than that. I guess the lens was not appropriate for macro shots. Sometimes walking back only 1 inch is enough to allow the camera to focus properly.
You compressed at 68 kb while we are allowed 300. Because of this the jpeg artefacts are visible and it's a pity.
The framing is rather unconventional. But as you mentioned it was a way to hide a defect rather than art.
The colors are lovely. The combination of tones in the pic is perfect. The back light is a real plus. Also you use with great talent the blue, orange and black from the pic to build the framing.
Cool pic where the beauty of the colors compensate some technical shortcoming.
