Taken back in August last year during our cooler months, these two are regulars to the garden, but I think this is the first time I actually captured them together.

The Sulphur-crested Cockatoo is a large white parrot. It has a dark grey-black bill, a distinctive Sulphur-yellow crest and a yellow wash on the underside of the wings. Sexes are similar, although the female can be separated at close range by its red-brown eye (darker brown in the male). This is a noisy and conspicuous cockatoo, both at rest and in flight. Young Sulphur-crested Cockatoos resemble the adults.

And the Rainbow Lorikeet is unmistakable with its bright red beak and colorful plumage. Both sexes look alike, with a blue (mauve) head and belly, green wings, tail and back, and an orange/yellow breast. They are often seen in loud and fast-moving flocks or in communal roosts at dusk.

The related Scaly-breasted Lorikeet is similar in size and shape, but can be distinguished by its all-green head and body.

Details, Shot Raw and converted to Jpeg, cropped and re-sized, re-sharpened for posting.

Hi Rick,
Hehehe, so funny the scene here, the R. Lorikeet seems to be seriously thinking about it.
Excellent POV to have both birds into the frame.
I can see the the effects of the winter up there, so good we're still in the warm January :-)
Congratulations and thanks for share.
My best regards,
JM

Rick,

You got me thinking with your last critique of my Eagle shot.... I say we do a 'photography' exchange program of sorts. First we shoot Eagles in Canada, then we fly over to your part of the woods and photograph parrots ! It wouldn't be that difficult to arrange and I bet the change of scenery would be very interesting for both of us. At any rate, I find it so out of the ordinary to see parrots in a garden.. :) Looks incredible, especially comparing to what I am used to. Anyways, nicely done as always. TFS.

Best Regards,

Martin

Hello Rick

I am amazed that such amazing birds visit the back garden. These are both very exotic looking birds to me.
Wonderful capture and well timed to get both in the same shot.
Lovely colour and sharp detail.
Great job.

Hi Rick,

I laughed out loud at the title! The Cockatoo is one amazing looking bird. The Lorikeet is a real bonus sitting there looking at him. The contrast between the two birds is fascinating - colors and size. I can't imagine looking out the window and seeing these birds. I'll trade you a Roadrunner for a Cockatoo!!!

Hello Richard !
Great picture of two beautiful birds, I really like it ! The back of the white Cockatoo may be a little over-exposed, but you managed to capture him with excellent details on the face, wonderful composition, beautiful colors (specially the blue sky), and the second bird is a wonderful bonus. Very well done !
Valerie.

Hello Rick,
I like your caption! Great to see these two beautiful birds together against the blue sky. Great focus on the Cockatoo in a nice pose. Difficult light that you managed very well.
TFS and regards, Ulla

Hi Rick,

What beauties! Excellent composition and exposure. That's a tough light situation, a white bird in bright sunlight, you've done as well as one can do in that situation without resorting to fill-flash.

I find all Parrots and their relatives to be fascinating, wish we some here. Our little native Carolina Parakeet is long extinct. We do have one exotic that's tough enough to survive our winters, Monk Parakeets from South America, but they're pretty rare.

Thanks,
John
