Hi

These birds are very commonly found in Brisbane. I photographed this one on the weekend at the Roma Street parklands in the Brisbane CBD.

The Noisy Miner is 25-28 cm and lives in open grassy forests, woodlands, and often in large colonies. It forages treetops to ground, is aggressive to other birds. Some calls are clear, mellow and quite musical, but others loud, raucous, complaining, noisy when taken up by others of flock. In breeding season has a clear musical song in dawn chorus. Is very common in Queensland, New South Wales, Tasmania and parts of South Australia.

The image was shot in RAW, and some sharpening and saturation increase in PS3, plus border added.

Thank you to everyone who has dropped by my string of not so good photos and left some very useful advice. The critiques have made me think more about the settings before taking the shot. I think I have done a little better on this one...yeah! Although, I had been taking photos of flowers in low light and my ISO setting was still on 400 which I probably didnt need with this open air shot and lots of light.

Cheers from Australia
Sue

Hi Sue, nice shot of this Noisy Miner, doing what they do best, make noise. You have good focus on this one, with good speed so the bird has turned out with good sharp detail. Colour is good, and I like the colour contrasts seen between the bird and that sky. You have him positioned very nicely on that angled stick. Very nice presentation.

Thanks, John

Excellent shot! The bright yellow/orange beak and yellow behind the eye are nicely complemented by the blue of the sky. The pose of the bird is great and your composition very strong. I love the simplicity of this image. Well done.

Hi Sue, we have these birds at home too - pesty creatures!! And noisy too.
Nice shot looking upwards at this fellow. His yellow face patch and beak show up well. And the catchlight in his eye. Also the patterns on the feathers,
Well done

Hi Sue,
A nice profile of the bird in full song (come across a few in full song lately :-))I like how the light strikes across its front and how its yellow beak and eye are illuminated. As you mentioned there is a bit of noise and maybe a less dominant frame would be more suitable.Good to see you and thanks for dropping by.
Regards, David
