Hi

I took this image at Teneriffe in Brisbane at the same time as my previous post of the male Superb Fairy-wren. It is not fair that the boys get all the colour but she is a sweet little thing anyway. Superb Fairy-wrens are very tiny and very very fast!.

Thanks to TN members for helping with my camera settings. I went straight to a faster shutter speed and I got quite a few shots which I was happy with. Focussing is still a challenge for me, especially when they move so fast. ISO was 400.

Superb Fairy-wrens are 13-14 cm and prefer dense undergrowth of grass, bracken, shrubbery in forests, heaths, gardens, roadsides and inland watercourses. They are often found in family parties - a dominant male, one or several females, and brownish juveniles or immatures. Song is a vigorous trill, beginning squeakily, but quickly strengthening into a strong, downward cascade of louder, less sharp, musical notes. They are commonly found in Austalia in the areas of South east Queensland, New South Wales, Tasmania and South Australia.

Hi Sue , I think this little she bird has very nice colors , I like the more subtle colors of many of the female birds , you have captured the colors very nicely with good exposure , the detail is very good , as well as the point of view.

I think that focus is a challenge for all of us :-) especially with fast little birds.

Isnt this one cute?
Infact as i understand they are also green coloured wrens, and i have tried taking shots of them on a weeping willow near my home. But i have not yet been able to get a clean one:(
This one sure seems to be looking for some food around.

Hi Sue, very nice shot of this Fairy-wren, and in excellent focus, with very good detail. Mark is right, it might use just a bit of sharpening, but it's there, a very little PP will bring it out. Colour on this lady is maybe not as bright as the males, but your capture of it is great. I'd be thrilled with a shot of one of these. I've seen a male once, and I'm not sure if I've seen a female or not, though I have seen some small skittish quick little birds.

This is a fairly good capture of a small bird, Sue. Pretty good focus and sharpness.
Trying different camera settings for practice on any suject and then observing the differences critically is a good method for learning to shoot with a DSLR. Fortunately, these digital gizmos allow you to erase practice shots without any regrets or extra cost. I used to do that a lot when I got my DSLR last year.
