Australian Magpie
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
The Australian Magpie (Gymnorhina hypoleuca) is found throughout Australia, but more commonly in the southern and eastern states.
Those found in the southern states (sub-species hypoleuca)have white backs, while those in the north eastern states (sub-species tibicen)have black backs.
Magpies are notorious for protecting their nests, and often attack people that stray too close during their nesting period in the later part of the year (spring / summer).
Nests are usually found in tree branches several metres from the ground, where clutches of three to five are raised. |

Very familiar bird this one.Plenty of them around here...unfortunately for our local birds.
Lots of stories to tell about these and their attacks.
A good capture here Peter. He's definitely eyeing you up.
Interesting to see this bird. Technically, this is not as sharp as one might like. I think the problem was your choice of f/4 as the aperture, which has reduced the DOF. You might have done better by bring the exposure to, sat, 1/250, and stopping down to f/8
Hi Peter, nice shot of this bird, I've not seen one of these before. I feel the picture could be sharper and has a blue cast. I have done a WS to correct this. I agree with Alan's comments on the DOF. Very good.
