[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is the third in the series of pictures taken in our two day trip to the Girraween National Park.

It would be very easy to imagine big burley giants constructing this beautiful archway before you. However, the granite arch is in fact a creation of Mother Nature herself.

Over millions of years, and a combination of natural forces including water, wind and plants have continued to sculpt the granite arch.

Blotchy lichens eat away at the granite by concocting a weak acid that breaks down the felspar – the pink mineral in granite.

The walk itself to the granite arch is only 1.4 km and takes about 35min to do the return trip.

Details, Shot Raw and converted to Jpeg, I also tweaked the Digital Exposure Compensation by +0.4 in Zoom Browser before reducing the image in size. I also sharpened it slightly befor posting,

Obviously, mother nature is a good arch builder Richard, since this fine construction needs some delicate balancing. The three boulders look quite impressive from this viewpoint, also with fine texture and structure. Thank you for this beautiful piece of natural construction my friend.

Hi Rick, I've never heard of this place. Cool. So is that a path, are you supposed to walk under that rock? Even though it's been in place for a million plus years, I'd have a bit of a problem doing that. Nice capture of this unique structure.

Lovely shot of these unusal granite bolders which form part of a tor. Great composition and use of light.
