[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
hi everyone,

for today's posting i have another upside down bird.. this time a Long-Billed Corella (Cacatua tenuirostris).

I was on an early morning walk when i found 4 long-billed corellas in a tree, shared with galahs and lorikeets.

This particular Corella seemed a real character, showing off and putting on a real show for his partner, or maybe it was for me?? either way, it made for a few interesting shots, this being one of them.

i'm not sure about these guys distribution... one of my Aussie bird field guides doesn't even acknowledge these guys being anywhere near this far north, but i'm 100% that it's a Long-Billed, and not a Little or Western Corella.

I kinda like the look in his eye, as if to say, 'i bet you can't do this!'

anyways, thanks for looking and for any words you feel like leaving! =)

Hi Gethin
Lovely cheeky action shot! He looks great with the gum tree and beautiful blue sky as a backdrop. Nice detail on the white feathers! I bought a book at the weekend ' Wildlife of Greater Brisbane'....it says that these guys are associated with urban areas throughout Brisbane, Ipswich, Gold and Sunshine Coasts. Native of southern Australia and are present all year. Hope this is of interest to you.
Cheers
Sue

Hi Gethin, I've seen Sulphur-cresteds do this too. It must be a bit of fun for them. You have very excellent light on this bird, giving great detail on the plumage. With the white feathers like this, this is a tough shot, but you've pulled it off very well. Colour and colour contrasts look very good too.

Thanks, John
