I spent most of the day down at the Port of Brisbane yesterday with my wife, and for a while it seemed all very quite as is sometimes the case when waiting around for something to shoot, when suddenly things started to happen, one of my favorite raptors the Brahminy Kite appeared.

It sat perched high in this dead tree for a while just staring at the mangrove lake area, when it suddenly swooped down grabbed a fish and went back to another tree for a feed, an amazing site to see.

I have posted a couple of shot’s of these birds of prey before so please see the previous posting for the details.

Details, Shot Raw converted to Jpeg, Cropped and re-sized sharpened slightly for posting.

Very nice shot, although i would expect a much close up toward the eagle. DOF is great.

WOW! I bet your were thrilled when your friend here arrived. Brahminy Kite - I've not seen or heard of one in NZ. It must be too far for him to reach NZ, and there's enough for him in Australia to feed on.

It's a good capture Richard - he looks so regal sitting up there on the tree. Well done
Janice

Hi Rick
The detail in the feathers, particularly the white ones has really been well captured. He really is a beautiful bird and you have done a great job here against the blue sky. I did see two flying over the containers when I went down to the Port the other weekend but I certainly didnt have your patience to wait for them to go back to their resting spots. TFS this one, certainly never get sick of seeing this amazing guy.
Cheers
Sue

Rick,

Awesome work mate. I really like the way you composed this shot. Even though this bird is not zoomed in as usual, the composition with the dead tree branches works really well here. Everything works just the way it should here - great work Rick.

Best Regards,

Martin

Why are they called Brahminy, Rick?I wonder!
A lovely shot, my friend!
