Hi friends, today I present a pair of Banded Grass-skipper (Toxidia parvulus), the male is the top one distinguished by the greyish-brown sex-brand on the forewing. The female is below next to some tiny unidentified fungi.
This species locally common in suitable habitat through eastern Australia, east of the Great Dividing Range. They have a wingspan of only 23mm and fly in the southern part of their range from October to March. They fly very close to the ground in open woodland with a grassy understorey, stopping to perch on eucalypt leaves or stones to sun themselves. The larvae feed on various native grasses.
Both these shot came from Cattai National Park, northwest of Sydney. The only PP was a little contrast and levels matching in Photoshop and sharpening in NeatImage after resizing for TN.

Hi Chris!

I like this picture. This is probably first picture on TN with butterfly and fungi together. Good, warm light and colours, interesting and new to me subject. Very hairy one :-)

Hello Chris,

Hey! You find the trick to post 2 pictures at the same time ;-)

Seriously, I like very much the fact that you present us both sex of this Hesperiidae within the same picture... It helpes alot for the identification and to see the differences...

The male is very splendid with a perfect POV! Great details on the wings too!

Great job and TFS!

Michel

Hello Chris,
This is a brilliant presentation of the male and female Banded Grass-Skipper. Both images are very clear and I love the compositions - the top one nicely camouflaged on a leaf and the bottom one next to some bright fungi. Beautiful light and colours too. Well done!
TFS and best wishes, Ulla

Hi Chris,
Outstanding shot of this male and female banded Skipper with such lovely colours and markings on their small wings. Very neat and sharp images with spot-on focus. The bright sunlight has been skillfully handled and I like the natural setting of both the images. Excellent POVs and very nice composition and presentation. Kudos.
TFS.

Hi Chris,
there are also skippers in Australia I discover. The association with those fungi is excellent. But of course the camouflage on the Eucalyptus leaf is what strikes me most. Interesting, well executed macros and an excellent text to boot, what do we want more?

Hi Chris,
A nice capture of this banded grass skipper. Very nice collage with very good composition and sharp details. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Hi Chris, thanks for this double splendid view of lovely skipper with fantastic details, excellent sharpness and beautiful colors, very well done, have a nice week end, ciao Silvio
