[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Australia has several species of large plump ground-dwelling pigeons, and this one is probably the dullest of the group. It is a Squatter Pigeon (Geophaps scripta) which is found in open woodland with grassy understorey through Queensland mainly west of the Great Dividing Range. They are 29 cm(10 in) in size and hang around in small groups feeding on seeds amongst the tall grasses. When disturbed they squat down hiding amongst the grass, hence their common name. At other times they simply run away, surprisingly fast through the grass, disappearing amongst fallen timber.
We startled this one, which jumped up on a dead tree and froze. I had to shoot at ISO 800 due to the poor light on this overcast day, but I though the result was acceptable.

bella cattura di questo piccione, ottima composizione con la posa sul grosso ramo e la tipica postura eretta, buona definizione e in considerazione della poca luce è più che accettabile anche la resa dei colori.

Bonita especie de Tórtola ( que llamamos en España) que no se encuentra en Europa, o al menos en España, con evidentes parecidos a Streptopelia turtur, aunque no soy experto en el tema. Buen encuadre y pose del ave y unos colores muy adecuados en toda la toma.

Hi Chris,
A very clear portrait of the S. pigeon.
I like the profile pose got, in which can be appreciated the different patterns and colours of the feathers around the eye.
Proper exposure settings let the subject being isolated from the background by the focus.

It's not dull, it is really gorgeous and you've captured it very well out in the open showing its markings and colours very clearly.

Hello Chris,
This caught my eye, a species of pigeon that we have looked for several times but either failed to see because it was too camouflaged while squatting on the ground or just wasn't there.
Whatever, it is great to see this capture of a Squatting Pigeon, well seen and not squatting against a similarly coloured BG.
