This Rainbow Bee-Eater was not happy after i had been stalking him for fifteen minutes trying to get a good shot. Finally he had enough and went straight for the camera, nearly knocking me over into the billabong trying to duck out of the way. Luckily i managed to take this shot before falling on my bum.
He had been sitting on a stalk about five meters away when he become very upset, must have had a bad experience with the paparazzi in the past

Rainbow bee-eaters are brilliantly colored birds that grow to be 7 to 8 inches in length, including the elongated tail feathers. The upper back and wings are green in color, and the lower back and under-tail covers are bright blue. The undersides of the wings and primary flight feathers are red and tipped with black, and the tail is black to deep violet. The rainbow bee-eater's two central tail feathers are longer than the other tail feathers, and are longer in the female rainbow bee-eaters than in the males. The crown of the head, the stomach and breast, and the throat are pale yellowish in color, and the rainbow bee-eater has a black bib and a black stripe through its red eye.

Hello Jon,
Excellent image. Excellent frontal POV, this is a beautiful and colourful bird you have captured.Best regards Siggi

Very excellent capture Jon. With your rushed shot, you have still managed to capture very good depth of field with great focus on the eyes, and good visibility down to the final tail feathers. It's well composed with room on the left (forward for the bird) to fly. The blur on the wings adds to the scene. This is a very unique shot, which won't easily be duplicated.

Thanks, enjoyed! John

Hello Jon,

What a story!!! I'm laughing just imagining the scene :-)

I like this squared composition which work very well here! Colors are impressive and he really looks furious!

It is just a little bit pity that the head is not so sharp (a little bit blurred) but having it flying toward you I don't think I would have done better too !

Great shot and TFS!

Michel
