[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Tawny frogmouths have enormous wide frog-like mouths, which they use to capture insects. They have large, horny, triangular, sharply hooked bills. Their legs are very short and their feet small and weak. They are somewhat lethargic in their movements, and are the weakest fliers in the order. Their rounded wings are only of moderate length.

Frogmouths range in length from 9 to 21 inches. Their soft silky plumage is marbled grey, patterned with cryptic streaks and barrings. The sexes are alike or nearly so. Most species are dichromatic, meaning they have ruddy brown and grayish color phases.

hi Jon,
fantastic shot of this Tawny Frogmouth. The pose you've caught has a real cartoony feel to it.. looks like a character out of an up-coming 3d animation or something.
nice focus and fantastic lighting, especially since they are nocturnal generally. was this in the wild? nice one!

Hello Jon
This is really a curious bird to me! I had never seen it. I don't know how its mouth looks open, but so seen it doesn't look so big. I think this bird is how I should imagine a bird with beard and moustache, ha,ha!
Good shot.
Greetings
Maite

Hey Jon,
Thanks for the comments this is a great shot of this Tawny frogmouth, excellent details in the plumage, love the tight crop, and the exposure is spot on, nice work mate, all the best Cheers Rick :)

Hi Jon,
Wonder how i missed this fabulous shot along with all the other beautiful shots in your gallery. Well better late than never.:)Or else it would ahve been a great loss. i loved each and every shot in your gallery. You have got a pretty god collection of birds. This frogmouth shot is excellent. i agree that they are not the" beautiful" kind of bird, but i have always been fascinated by them. The best thing i like about them is their eyes. They are very expressive, no? Your picture is excellent with good sharpness and details. I loved the expression and the pose captured.
Thanks for the share,
Smitha.
