[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
(Neochmia phaeton)
Keeping apart in pairs or family groups, the Crimson Finch rarely forms flocks. The birds fight constantly, driving one another away from perches and fencing with their bills. Even pairs do not perch touching together or preen each other. Squabbling birds erect their face feathers and fan their tails; in a fight they raise one wing vertically. This aggressiveness does not extend to territory and several pairs may nest close to one another.
Crimson Finches range across northern Australia in pockets of tall wet grassland mixed with pandans and trees along streams. There they have also occupied patches around settlements with their own wells and troughs. The Crimson Finch is found across north, from Kimberleys to Mackay, QLD.

Hello Jon !
This one is such a beautiful bird, I love his crimson color. I also like how he is looking at the little flower. Excellent details, beautiful composition and POV, and a nice blurred BG, I like the blurred twisted branch, it gives some depth to the picture. Very well done !

Hello Jon,
This is another beautiful Finch species captured in a lovely pose here. It looks a bit strange and blotchy, is it a youngster or perhaps it's been in a fight! Great focus on the eye and lovely colours.
TFS and best wishes, Ulla

Hi Jon,

Another member of the Finch family that is new to me. Interesting notes about their bickering. This bird has such unusual coloring with the red tail and the red blotches on the breast and wings. The bird seems to be staring at the flower. I like the composition very much.

Jane

Hello Jon,
Was there a cherry splash around this beautiful dainty bird?Wow!!I have never seen a bird of this kind...the plumage, beak and the tail seems to be dipped in a nice cherry rich colours.

The details are excellent and the shot is framed with good DoF and well saturated colours. The profile gives a very good view of the bird showing off its beauty.Very well done.
TFS & Cheers
