About 22 mm long. The females collect mud and use it to construct bottle shaped nests which can often be seen attached to buildings or under the eaves of houses. When the work is complete, the female mud dauber wasp captures and paralyses spiders which she places inside the chamber. She lays her eggs, and then seals the entrance to the nest. When the wasp larvae hatch they feed on the insects, and later emerge as adult wasps to start the cycle all over again. They are not aggressive.

Fantastic bug,very nice macro.

Great macro shot Zdenka. These wasps really look strange. Very good colours and sharpness. I cann't let him go - he/she is really looking strange with tha far away hind body.

By the way - welcome on TN.

I'm not so sure the spiders will agree with you when you say these are not agressive ;-))
Beautiful capture with great sharpness, DOF and colours. Interesting critter. And welcome from me, too :-))

A great macro shot! The color and detail are just excellent. Perfect DOF with slightly blurred foreground and backround, but subject is dead on. Nice Job!

I have seen this species in its relentless attacks on a spider...they can be very aggressive when they want and sting repeatedly. This is quite a good shot and post to TN.
The black and yellow contrasts well with mud. Good DOF and POV.

This is a very good macro Zdenka. The wasp looks scary, but as you say,it is not aggressive and not too big at 22mm.Great colours and details here. Thanks.

Excellent shot, with super-sharp focus on the subject (I can see all the fine hairs!). Good thing they're not aggressive, or you might have a sting to tell about.

Very good picture of a fascinating wasp. Amazing how they manage to keep themselves clean in spite of their job.
Excellent focus and a very descriptive angle.

Great shot. Maybe one day I'll get to travel around Aus. and see one of these. This shot is so clear and detailed. Amazing.

A superb capture, the details are amazing. And a very informative note.
Thank you for sharing.
