[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is another image I took whilst on my morning walk around Balhannah in South Australia. I love the Banksia plants, even their seed heads look great. I will get a photo of one of them at a later date.

Banksia integrifolia var. integrifolia - Coast Banksia

This hardy Banksia grows very well in coastal areas and can tolerate salt spray. Plants may grow to 25 m, but are often smaller. The dark green leaves have a silvery underside, which adds to the beauty of the foliage. The pale yellow flowers open from late summer to winter. Plants are frost tolerant.

Banksia Flowers and Fruits

The flower heads are made up of hundreds (sometimes thousands) of tiny individual flowers grouped together. The colour of the flower heads usually ranges from yellow to red. Many species flower over autumn and winter. The fruits of banksias (called follicles) are hard and woody and are often grouped together to resemble cones (which they are not ¬ true cones are produced only by conifers). The fruits protect the seeds from foraging animals and from fire. In many species the fruits will not open until they have been burnt or completely dried out.

Cheers,
Debbie

Hi Debbie

Banksias simply mean Australia to me - I can almost hear the Currawongs calling!

Nice evocative shot.

James

Hi Deb, :)

What a beautiful flower, great details and colours! Nice DOF, really like your composition on this photo. Well done, thanks for sharing!

Ange

Luckily for the birds with the honeybeaks there are these flowers in OZ!
I have had the priviledge to visit your country, as my daughter moved to WA;
was there in the local Spring. It was unsurpased! The wildflowers were superb!

So many things to see; so many to do!

I like your Banksia here. Most of the ones I saw were yellow if I recall! The cones are something else too! Tfs, Jay

PS Welcome on TN! Small nit; it looks to me that the flowers are actually out of focus.
