Unfortuntely I don't know a lot about non-native trees, so I can't identify what this tree is, however I love the colours of Autumn. We got a little much needed rain yesterday morning (South Australia and much of the rest of Australia are suffering from drought conditions at the moment) so it was good to see a couple of drops of water on these leaves.

Instead of writing about the tree I found this information about Autumn leaves.

As summer ends and autumn comes, the days get shorter and shorter. This is how the trees "know" to begin getting ready for winter.

During winter, there is not enough light or water for photosynthesis. The trees will rest, and live off the food they stored during the summer. They begin to shut down their food-making factories. The green chlorophyll disappears from the leaves. As the bright green fades away, we begin to see yellow and orange colors. Small amounts of these colors have been in the leaves all along. We just can't see them in the summer, because they are covered up by the green chlorophyll.

The bright reds and purples we see in leaves are made mostly in the fall. In some trees, like maples, glucose is trapped in the leaves after photosynthesis stops. Sunlight and the cool nights of autumn cause the leaves turn this glucose into a red color. The brown color of trees like oaks is made from wastes left in the leaves.

It is the combination of all these things that make the beautiful colors we enjoy in the fall.

Hello Again Debbie, :)

Woman you are breaking my heart with this photo! Love these Autumn Colours, to me this looks like a Maple but honestly can't say for sure. Great sharpness, and the rich red is just wonderful! Very well composed, thank you for sharing.

*making a note here, I misidentified my heron today! Go figure :| It's a Green Heron, not Blue! Sorry*

Ange

They looks a lot like sweet gum leaves. Odd for us to see these colors this time of year... but of course perfectly natural for you.
My house is almost surrounded by sweet gum... this very color in autumn. It is a nice sharp image, a simple effective composition and has good natural color.

Thanks for sharing.

Really nice and unique shot, never see this leaf with this crimson red colour, the capture is really natural, thanks for the interesting notes also

Hi Deb,

Hi Deb,

A lovely and unusual picture of the autumn leaves. They look so pretty - as if you hand arranged them. This is something I miss living in Arizona after the East Coast. No falling leaves and no changing colors. TFS.

Jane

Magnifique composition et magnifiques couleurs.
Bravo

Hello Debbie!
Maybe it is not very unusual thing, but a very nice! I like your "colours of sutumn" a lot even if I prefer spring that autumn ;> Very nice composition with good details and beauty colours. TFS and best greetings from Poland!
