Another collage of desert landscapes from my recent trip through the eastern Australian deserts.

Thanks for the encouraging comments on my previous two desertscape collages.

The top image shows how hard life can be in the semi-arid desert along the Birdsville track. These are ruins at Lake Henry (a dry salt lake). In the early 1900s they tried to establish a date palm farm here. A couple of thousand date palms were grown to maturity, but alas there were no native insects to pollinate the date flowers, so no dates were produced, the business died and the property abandoned to the elements. 1/800 sec, f7.

The middle shot is the summit of “Big Red” a 40m dune west of Birdsville and as far west as we went this time. This dune is one of the largest in inland Australia, and great views can be had from the top. The day before I took this there was not a cloud in the sky and 44 deg C. A cool change came through in the night and lowered the temperature to 24deg C and brought in the welcome cloud. The track continues west from here over another 1200 sand dunes, but we left that for another journey. 1/480 sec, f4.5.

The bottom shot is the afterglow of sunset on the flat featureless plains of Sturt’s Stony Desert, halfway up the Birdsville track. 1/4 sec, f3.2.

Thanks for looking, all critiques appreciated.

Hi Chris,
I think all three are excellent in composition, The colors and detail look great. I know these are all very vast featureless areas. I also like #1 the best because you just get a better sense of scale to this visually. Your series has been outstanding!

Hi Chris!

Your desert pictures are just beautifull! I like all of them, but the bottom one with dusk is my favourite. Great colours, clarity and compositions. I hope you'll send more!

Very artistic and creative

Well done all Chris. I think I like the top shot the best for it's "nostalgic" appeal and realism..Great note, Well done!

Hi Chris

This will be a quick critique as I am running late today. Good shot. Nicely presented post. Lovely colours in each and every one. My favourite is the top photo. Great work. TFS
