[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I took this photo a few weeks ago in my backyard. This Heron had been visiting for about a week having a great time digging things up from the soil! Maybe it was bored with the nearby Wetlands area but it was lovely to have it in my backyard nearly everyday!! It became quite used to me taking photos.

Ardea novaehollandiae (White-faced Heron)

This slim bluish-grey heron has a white face, chin and upper throat, and a black bill and greenish-yellow legs. Strap-shaped plumes are long and pale grey on the back and short and pinkish brown on the chest. The call is a guttural croak.

Habitat
Any sort of waterway, creek, dams or wetlands throughout the east coast of Australia.

Diet
White-Faced Herons are generalists when it comes to feeding. They forage over inter-tidal mud flats and rock pools, swamps, wet pasture and even residential lawns. Their prey is varied, mostly crustaceans, squid, fish, insects, amphibians, spiders, snails and worms.

Breeding
The White-Faced Heron breeds most of the year, depending on food supplies. Their nest is a loose platform of sticks up to 20 metres above the ground in a tree not necessarily near water. Both adults incubate for about 26 days and usually 2 chicks are raised and fed by both parents.

Hi Tina,
Beautiful Heron that. Lovely colours and impressive details. I like your POV to portray it and its calm and composed pose. Though the BG is busy but it illustrates the habitat well. Very nicely composed. Kudos.

Hi Tina.
This is nearly a perfect shot.
Your composition and detail is great.
The only thing ... because you've taken this in bright sun,there is a bit of UV glare giving the image a very bluish haze.
The remedy is to make sure your white balance is set for sunny when shooting in bright sunlight.
Experiment with the settings on your camera until it comes out right.
I have toned down the blue a little in a workshop.

Wow, Tina! This is absolutely beautiful! I have not seen this Heron but sure wish I will get the opportunity.... ;o)

There is some noise in the picture because of the high ISO (800). Have you tried to use some noise reduction plugin?

Hi Tina,

I can't imagine finding this beautiful heron in my backyard! Here it's more likely to be a bobcat. This is marvelous - perfect pose, beautiful colors, excellent details and a nice natural setting.

I always seem to take an artists eye to pictures in nature. Although I am more of an editorial photographer, my natural work I do a bit differently than others, which is why I personally like the colors...

Having said that, Steve's workshop is also good. As a stand alone presented as a work by him, it would certainly work, but again I add that I tend to like the colors in a more artistic fashion....

Wow, what a colourful and elegant Heron Tina! This is a great shot with wonderful light, colour and sharpness. Perfect POV on the profile, showing colourful plumage. Great composition. I will try and catch up on your other recent shots.

Great image of this White-faced Heron, it may be a young one because I have read that are often redish on the underparts. The image is lovely and sharp and we can see much of the birds details well. How lovely it is that it comes to visit you, this is special.

Hi Tina, this is excellent detail on this White Faced Heron. The hackles and lanceolote plumes on this guy are fabulous. The colour too is very good with great exposure throughout.
