[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
A March fly, so called because it arrives around March each year, they can grow up to about 15mm x 7mm body size. The first time you are aware of their presence is when you feel a sharp sting/pain on your skin, sometimes in numbers, they are around for a few weeks and then disappear to return/emerge the following March. This one I swatted on my leg and placed on some polyfoam for contrast. Shot with a Sony 505v, cropped and sharpened in Corel pp.

Hello Peter,

We have a very similar fly here in Europe, Ernestia puparum (Tachinidae). I dont' know if its distribution reaches as far as Australia, though...

Best regards,
Dmitry
