[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The Bar-shouldered Dove (Geopelia humeralis) is a medium sized dove (28cm) that has a wide distribution through eastern and northern Australia. It inhabits a variety of open woodlands, shrublands, heathlands and urban parklands. It is more common in the north, becoming scarce on the temperate southern east coastal area of the continent. It is a terrestrial species feeding on a variety of seeds, especially those of the myriad acacia species found throughout its preferred habitats.
Breeding occurs from September to January in the south and February to April in the north.
The nest is a fragile collection of a few sticks placed in the fork of a low tree or shrub; 2 eggs are laid.
It is largely sedentary by nature and is increasing in some southern areas.
This one was captured at Wongi Falls in Litchfield National Park, about 100km south of Darwin, where they were quite numerous.

With a bit more light it would have been great.

Chris, I really like these specie of Dove with this cascading tiled look seen its feathers. I've seen it here in Texas on rare occassions. Your photo has good sharpness & detail. I've only been shooting birds a short time..I'm definitely no expert..I will tell you that I always get the best results when there is plenty of light...Especially when you can get a piece of sky! TFS

This dove blends in very well, making it difficult to shoot, but you did very well. The image is sharp and the definition great.

Interesante presentacion Chris de otra especie de rata voladora de las que existen en todo el mundo.

Interesting presentation Chris of another species of flying rat of which they exist anywhere in the world.

Nice one Chris almost looks like a pheasant with the barred feathers and long tail.Good set of notes too.

Almost an identical setting! The doves were movin' about on the ground, scrounging for goodness knows what!
