[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is not a pretty sight and some may find it a bit disturbing to see a bird in this state. This Sulphur Crested Cockatoo has been visiting my backyard for the past few weeks, the first time I saw him I thought that this was an old bird. After posting an example of a healthy specimen of this bird on TrekNature, I was doing a bit of research and found that this bird most likely has “PSITTACINE BEAK AND FEATHER DISEASE (Psittacine Circovirus Disease)”. The disease causes gross malformations to the beak, also affecting the cells which are involved in feather development, the disease also affects the bird’s immune system. As a consequence the bird finds it difficult to eat and overtime looses its feathers and eventually dies. This poor specimen also showed deformities in its claws.
The bird has continued to visit us, but has been deteriorating.
Apologies again to those who may find this upsetting, nature isn’t always beautiful.

Hello Peter

Yes, a distressing shot and note, but at least this bird knows where it can get a feed, and that alone for me is a consolation.

Poor bird, still resisting all the pain and difficulties apparently in a game to be lost. Her eyes are alive at least despite only thing working fine is the skillful tonque
