[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I dedicate this post to my friend Felipe (extramundi) whose amazing fungi shots never cease to amaze and inspire me. Studying his work helped me discover a whole new world on th eforest floor. His work has taught me how to look at fungi from ground level and find new angles to shoot from.

I found this beautiful apricot-pink coralloid fungi (Ramia sp.) in leaf litter near Carrington Falls. The coralloid tuft was perhaps 10 cm across and I think you will agree that it would look quite at home in a coral reef display.
The coral fungi of Australia are quite varied and range in colours from white, yellow, reds to blues and purples. Most are wood recyclers and are found on the forest floor and have a pungent smell. Some members of this group are known to be quite toxic.
The shot was taken in natural light and the camera is places on a thin flat rock in front of the specimen.

This really looks just like a coral!! Amazing fungus very well captured against the dark wet leaves. I like the low POV too! Great sharpness and fine colours.

Lovely shot of this coral fungus Chris.
I'm quite surprised to see it growing under eucalypts,and in such a light location.
I've found some beautiful purple ones like this at Punakaiki.
You should be able to get the ID for this from Clives Hidden Forest site.

Hi Chris, if I didn't see this here in your post I might have thought this was a pretty good looking branch coral. Very nice shot. Excellent lighting, texture and colour throughout. We got to Carrington Falls. You were right, it was much better flow than last year.

I don't know much about photographing fungi, but you have captured a beautiful color here. Excellent exposure.

I have seen some of these around here, but colours were much paler, this one is like a flower in the middle of the woods.
I appreciate very much your words and dedication, MF. The fact is that most of people that begin to feel interest and look down to the forest floor, discover this interesting "microworld" so near and so unknown...
