[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Often I have taken birdwatchers here and there peering into the tree tops at little brownish coloured thornbills (or similar species). “but which species is it” they ask? Then you spend several minutes pointing out the key features while staring straight up and getting a pain in the neck. Does this sound familiar, wouldn’t it be easier if they all just came down to eye level like this fellow did.
It’s a Striated Thornbill (Acanthiza lineta) is one the smaller birds from south-eastern Australia with a length of only 10cm. They usually are found in the middle to upper canopy of eucalypt forests and tall woodlands. I was lucky with this one as I was a steep slope and the top of this recently dead sapling was at my level. Often confused with Brown Thornbill, which also has a brown cap, you can clearly see the striations on the ear coverts which helps separate this species in the field.
This one was captured near Wyangla Dam.
Also I just realised that this is my 100th bird shot from Australia.

Hello Chris,

Very attractive light, sweet and warm. Classic but pleasant composition. The focus misses maybe a little of neatness on the bird.

Best regards.
