Cape Tribulation – Daintree National Park

This outcrop in northern Queensland was named by the British explorer Captain James Cook after he ran aground here with his ship Endeavour in 1770. This was originally the home of the Aboriginal people of the Kuku Yalanji tribe. The tropical rainforests of Cape Tribution as well as the Great Barrier Reef along the coast are both listed as World Heritage areas.

We were very fortunate to be able to visit both these areas in November 2005. We stayed at Daintree and took the ferry across Daintree River to the National Park with its lush tropical rainforest, white sandy beaches, mangroves and swamps. It is a unique and unspoilt area in spite of the large amount of visitors from all over the world, but at the time when we went it was very quiet and pleasant. The road to Cape Tribulation is narrow and winding and if you want to go beyond the Cape you need a four-wheel drive vehicle as the roads are rough. Most people opt for the Daintree National Park Discovery Centre with organised boardwalks and an observation tower as well as excellent displays and information about flora and fauna.

A remarkably beautiful composition, Ulla.
Water, land and sky combine very well here in terms of colours and shapes. The tree tops in the foreground give a fine perspective to the entire landscape by breaking the monotony of a straight line.
A well seen and well captured view.
Thanks for sharing it and best regards.

Hello Ulla! Beautiful landscape/seascape. Amazing background. Excellent colors. Very good lightness and sharpness. Great effect. Well done!

Ulla;
I have always been fond of an image with a descending mountain or hill from high at left to lower at right. When reversed either in elevation of direction it doesn't seem to work as well. I wonder if it is just me...or perhaps others..something to ponder on whilst looking at your image...Very nicely done and raising a good question.

Hi Ulla

Lovely composition - I like the clouds and the rich but hazy tropical colours. I seem to remeber the sea being quite brownish close to shore as a result of the mangroves.
