Hi everyone,

today i've got a shot of a Ashy-bellied White-eye, aka Pale White-eye, aka Pale-bellied White-eye (Zosterops citrinellus). This was taken at the start of the year, at Green Island on the Great Barrier Reef.

It's one of those lucky and rare shots for me, in that, i only had enough time to get 1 shot off, before he flew away.. and thankfully that shot was focused!

Unfortunately, my camera was set on ISO1600, which will explain the noise.. i'm not sure why but i'd forgotten to change back, whatever the reason... =I learn from your, well my, mistakes!

ah well, thats life and photography.. noisy is better than nothing!

thanks for looking! enjoy!

Hello Gethin,

This is perfect-lovely capture friend! Superb composition. TFS.
Cheers,

Bayram

Hi Gethin,
Very nice! I think this is the first photo that I have seen of this bird (race albiventris) from Australia - have only one other photo of the race from the Tanimbars.

Yes, I know that this is the English Common Name used in Oz, but perhaps better to use the name used outside of Australia so as not to confuse the bird with the African Z. pallidus. Ashy-bellied White-eye.

Very rare shot.

Hi Gethin,
this is a nice picture with a funny pose of the bird.
Good sharpness with fine details and the bird is well exposed, pity about the big white spot to the right.
I like the compostion too.
Well done.

Hi Gethin,

I have no problem with this high ISO photo, and I regularly shoot at that setting to get enough shutter speed.
Only the BG (leaves and sky) you can see the grainy. The bird plumages is very good. Super sharp focused, White-eye clearly seen.
Cheers,
/Tabib/.

Hi Gethin,

A nice shot of this cute bird in a wonderful pose. It reminds me of our Warblers who get into all kinds of crazy positions and never are still. Lovely natural colors and good details. He has a nice sparkle in his eye - like he's saying, "Hey look at me!"

Hi Gethin,
Just excellent mate, as you mentioned the 1600 iso put some noise there but its still a great shot, love the vertical crop, you don't mention if you used a fill flash looks like you did and nailed it perfectly, excellent detail, stunning colours, great eye catch, really nice work, Cheers Rick....

Hey Gethin, there are so many birds and other animals I need to see while I'm over here, and this becomes another. Very nice shot of the Ashy-bellied White-eye (who picks these names). Different colours and all, but it almost reminds me of a Nuthatch the way he's running down the branch upside down. Colour's good on this one with great detail. I read you note about the noise, so I'm guessing you did something about it, because it doesn't look all that bad from where I'm sitting.

Thanks, John

Hello Gethin,

You are right about the noise but only visible in the bg. The focus is spot on which is very well done for a single shot on the bird. I like the way it crawls down the vertical branch stretching the legs wide exposing the colorful beauty of the plumage especially around the head. Well done and best regards.
