[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This guy was sunning himself on a boat at Cabbage Tree Passage, which is located at Sandgate in Brisbane. I was following some pelicans trying to get a photo when there he was, right in front of me! He sat for while, then moved to another boat, then back to the mangroves on the other side of the creek.

The Great Egret (85 cm - 1 metre) has tall graceful, long legs, long kinked neck, snowy white plumage. In flight has slow deliberate wing beats with neck folded. Hunts with slow, stealthy movements; often poises motionless, neck extended, but kinked ready for a thrust of the straight spearing bill. Solitary or small groups, rarely large flocks. When alarmed, on taking flight, gives a low hollow croaking 'argh-argh-arrgh-arrgh'.

Habitat includes wetland, flooded crops, pasture, dams, roadside ditches, estuarine mudflats, mangroves and reefs. Is Common, very widespread in any suitable permanent or temporary habitat.

Hello Sue,
White birds in bright light are difficult, but you do well here with fair details in the plumage!
You capture well the characteristics of the bird, and the composition is interesting...
Greetings,
Pablo -

hi Sue,
nice capture of this Egret. good detail and nicely lit.. their bright white is not an easy thing to photograph well, so you've managed quite a good attempt here.
i love watching these guys harrass fishermen.. a few weeks back, i saw 2 harrassing a guy casting his net.. he'd try chase one off, and the other would sneak in from the other side and steal his fish.. then he's try chase that one off, and the other would sneak in and steal his catch. good fun to watch, although frustrating for the fisherman i'm sure. tfs

Hi Sue,
To take the picture of a white bird on dark back ground is not easy. This condition reduce the speed of camera and white areas will be overexposed. The stuation in your photo is like this. A bit overexposed in white areas. However, anyway good compositiın and good photo. I like it. TFS. Regards,
Mustafa

Nice shot Sue. Great composition and sharpness. Egrets are so interesting. TFS Di

Hi Sue, this is a very good shot of this Great Egret. These are an awesome bird. Catching him on the deck like this gives us a very full detailed look at this bird. The light is good, and with it you've captured very excellent colour and detail.

Thanks, John

Hi Sue
Great capture with sharpness and nice balance with white post to complement the white egret.

Hello Sue,
an exciting subject. A very clear image with a very contrasting background.
Excellent positioning and good composition of existing subject around the egret.

Foozi
