Wandering Percher - Diplacodes bipunctata

My wife and I went down to the Brisbane Port Wet Lands today hoping to catch the Brahminy or Whistling Kite; unfortunately it wasn’t to be although we did see them in the distance, just weren’t close enough for a decent picture, so I’ve settled for some Dragon Flies instead.

Wandering Percher are small in size. The mature male dragonfly has the red eyes, red face, red thorax and red abdomen. Its wings are clear. There are the black heart-shaped markings on each segment of the abdomen. This is one of the most common dragonflies in Brisbane.

There is another small red dragonfly common in Brisbane, the Scarlet Percher, that they do not have markings on abdomen.

Details, Shot Raw converted to Jpeg cropped and reduced in size, sharpened slightly for posting,

A fine specimen caught perfectly from a lateral viewpoint Richard, you've got good definition in this macro, the colors well reproduced against a pleasantly OOF BG. Thanks for sharing this, my friend.
Cheers,
Mehmet

Nice DOF, not easy to have a decent BG for dragonfly, i think golden sunset or sun rise would make a perfect match, especially with the reflection of water giving some glare to surrounding.
TFS
Best regards,
Kean

Hello Richard,

Wonderful shot of this red Dragon.
Love the clarity and the color contrast between the bright red color of the body and eyes and the grey tones in the background.
Great sharpness, excellent composition and beautiful details.
Very well done. TFS!!!

Best regards, Harry

Hi Rick, very excellent detail seen on this Wandering Percher. Light on the dragonfly is good allowing good depth of field to view the whole insect in good sharp focus. Colours are very good and contrast well with that background.

Thanks, John

I'm a sucker for dragonflies, Richard, and this species being new for me gives me great delight.
I have seen and captured red-coloured dragonflies, especially Trithemis aurora and Scarlet Skimmer.
Your Wandering Percher is a handsome bloke with an impressibe red and black abdomen. I think it must be a male of the species.
The image is sharp and colourful.
TFS and take care.
