| This small heron was sunning himself near the edge of Canada Bay, a popular walking track of arounnd 7km. They seem to come in various colours and this one has grey blue feathers. |

Hi Murray.
Very nice scene with this small heron. Shot is framed and composed perfectly. It seems to me it would be better use spot metering mode. Image of the bird seems OE a little bit. I like excellent DOF and perfect details of the entire scene. MY kind regards and all the best.

Hi Murray, this is a good pose of this White Faced Heron and the focus is good, but it is definitely overexposed. I played a bit with it, trying to colour it in different ways, but everything I tried looked artificial.
Some tips for next time though: bracket your shots, i.e. shoot some under, some at and some over exposed, then pitch out what you don't want after. Digital is cheap. Also, it can be easier with PP to bring back some detail if it is a little under, rather than over exposed, so if in doubt make it just a tad darker. I suspect in your metering you used an average. Try to meter with spot instead, and focus in on important stuff like the bird. I expect the rocks and water fooled your meter in this case.
Thanks, John
Hi Murray,
A strong light on the small heron which seem to overexposed part of the bird. The subject is well framed. The point of view is showing the details and colors of the bird. Have a nice day.
