[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Hi...hope you are having a great day!

This fellow was sitting atop a tree at the Wildlife Refuge lake at Mount Tamborine, which is one hour south of Brisbane. The photo was taken at about 7 am in the morning and the sun was already warming the place up!

The picture was taken in AV Mode f5.6, 1/125 shutter speed and ISO100. The picture has been cropped in PS3, sharpened and a frame added.

The Pied Cormorant, 70-80cm, uses both marine and inland waters - coastal lagoons, estuaries, lakes, rivers, billabongs and the more open and deep areas of swamps. May be solitary, in small groups, or in thousands. Flight is strong, direct, slower wing beats than Little Pied Cormorant, head high, neck often kinked. When travelling in numbers, forms V pattern. Rests, roosts and nests in trees, often perches with wings extended. Usually silent, but various cacklings, loud ticking, deep gutteral grunting in breeding colonies. Moderately common to abundant in all states of Australia

what a cute cormorant, nice close capture with good details and a
great pose, the focus seems to be a little soft though.

Bravo Sue! The lighting is really good, with good shadows. I like the pose with the deep blue sky colour.I am surprised that that sky came out so well with your settings.
I believe my Nikon would have blown out the sky at 5.6
Your Canon even gave it a nice DOF.Must be the nice morning atmosphere.

Very nice capture.Maybe it's a little soft but i liked pose of bird,glisten eyes,POV and framing a lot.

Hello Sue,
These are great birds to try and photograph. You have caught a good pose, but it is a little soft - but keep practicing - try and focus on his head.
That's the fun thing about digitals, you can delete what you don't want. And you have a good camera, and lens.

hi Janice,
nice shot of this cormorant. nice vertical composition with nice natural colors and lighting. as has been said, it's a bit soft, but i think it has a nice feel about it because of it, adding to the 'fluffiness' of the bird. nice one, tfs
