[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Hi there

Today my photographer buddy, Aussie Di, were not looking for nature shots. The last few weekends I had dragged her around the forest tracks in search of birds, so this weekend we were going to practise our photography on architecture and flowers.

However, when we were visiting the Teneriffe area of Brisbane, which is beside the Brisbane River, we saw a lot of little birds crazyily flying around. This lovely male Superb Fairy-wren had quite a harem of girlfriends. They were flitting between trees and unfortunately I wasn't able to get a clean shot with him in a tree, so apologise for the very ugly background...way too urban!

Nevertheless, I thought he was too pretty not to share on TN. I will have to visit the area and try again for a more natural shot!

Superb Fairy-wrens are 13-14 cm and prefer dense undergrowth of grass, bracken, shrubbery in forests, heaths, gardens, roadsides and inland watercourses. They are often found in family parties - a dominant male, one or several females, and brownish juveniles or immatures. Song is a vigorous trill, beginning squeakily, but quickly strengthening into a strong, downward cascade of louder, less sharp, musical notes. They are commonly found in Austalia in the areas of South east Queensland, New South Wales, Tasmania and South Australia.

beautiful coloured bird, you had hard light and that's a pity.
Altough a good picture with good dof.

Pretty little bird, it stands out starkly against this "urban" jungle BG ;}
Well positioned in your frame with good color & detail.
And the common name is so..superb :)

Hello Sue,
The BG may be urban but this Superb Fairy-wren contrasts nicely with it! Though this it slightly soft I would have been delighted to get a shot like this of what is a difficult bird to photograph. I know after trying without success for quite some time during our visit to NSW.

Interesting shot of the fairy-wren here, Sue. Forget the urbanness, because to me you have introduced a new bird i have never seen.The colours on the birdie has come out well in the natural light.

very nice colours and very good contrasty light, i don't mind the 'urban' background myself, it's a part of the scene as you saw it!
