I actually took this some time ago on a trip up to the Lamington National Park it is of a Female Regent Bower Bird, I have posted a couple of pictures previously of the Regent Bowerbird a Young Male image and a male in full colour plumage.

The female is brown-black, mottled brown, with light brown scallops on its back and breast. There are dark patches on the back of its head and on the lower nape. The female's bill is dark brown to black and the eyes are yellowish-brown.

The immature male is similar to the female on it’s under parts and to the male on its upper parts i.e. head back and wings (except the primary feathers which are brown). The male's tail is shorter than that of the female or immature birds. Male Regent Bowerbirds' eyes become yellow in the second year.

Regent Bowerbirds are mainly sedentary, with some local winter movement, including from higher altitudes towards the coast. Large groups, typically of brown birds (the females and immature), may congregate in winter.

Regent Bowerbirds may sometimes be attracted to picnic areas. In the past, they were killed for their plumes or for mounting as novelties.

Details, Shot Raw and converted to Jpeg cropped and re-sharpened slightly for posting.

What a lovely shot, Richard!
I love the catchlight in the eye and the way you've brought out the plumage!
Cheers!

Hi Rick
Thanks for digging through your past pictures to share this one. A very nice little bird which must have been difficult to get a clean shot of through all the tree branches. I like the colours and DOF on this one.
Cheers
Sue

It's well composed and exposed. I liked the patterns and details on the plumage + the POV. TFS

Hi Rick

Good shot of this dull female. I think her drabness is even more pronounced when you see the male. But I guess she's not out to imppress us humans.
Good sharpnes, composition, catchlight in the eye and DOF.

Chris

TN amazes me so much, every day I discover people who have been on this site for months and years and that I had not "discovered" yet. Frankly, Richard, your gallery is beautiful and the photos of great quality. I like this one because of the precision and beautiful composition, the natural colours and the cristal clear details. Thank you!

Francine

Rick,

Very nicely done. Your image reminds me of a Female Red-winged Blackbird, commonly found in North America. Although they are different, the plumage colors have something in common. Your picture shows this bird very well. Captured in natural habitat, the shot is well composed and presented. Very nice work mate.

Best Regards,

Martin

Hello Richard

A very good pov for this lady bowerbird.
The plumage detail is very good and the markings and colours show well.
Nicely posed for us in a lovely natural setting.
The focus and sharpness are super.

Rob

I like this shot, partly because the light is so even that all the feather detail is evident. I also like your subject against that interesting background.

Hi Rick,
Superb capture with excellent sharpness and good clarity of this female Regent Bower bird.
The catchlight adds to the effect and the details on the plumage has been presented wonderfully.
Wonderful notes accompying the composition. It must be easier to capture thme since the birds are quite sedantry in nature. While it is quite interesting to note that these beautiful birds can be seen in picnic spots, it is shocking to know that people would kill them to adorn their homes!:(

Thanks for sharing this beauty.
TFS & Cheers
