Following on from yesterdays post and apologies for the double up, but I couldn’t resist the head-on shot of this Hedge Grasshopper;

Being new to the macro world I find it amazing to see creatures like this so close up, and the armor plating around its head just reminded me of a rhinoceros.

As mentioned I found this in the garbage bin and it has been since released back into the garden where its happy living the life of luxury.

Details: Shot Raw converted to Jpeg cropped slightly and resized, re-sharpened for posting.

Hi Richard,

The very lively yellow color of the grasshopper is stood well against a dark background. The focus is at where it should be, the eyes. TFS.
Ali

Smarty:-) You saved a great one for the full frontal look eh? When they said 'goin' for a walk about' you took the REAL long way...very nice image...it is a classic and so it shall go in that theme.

Hi Rick,

Were you thinking of hiding this one from us? I love the in your face version. The details of the face are wonderful and now I really get to see the joint at the "elbow." Marvelous against the dark background.

Hello Richard,
This is really an interesting insect portrait. I love it! I always had a great sympathy for hopper of all kinds. As a kid I used to catch them with the hands..
Its yellow coloration is superb!The brown background very fitting.
Thanks
Anne

Hi Rick,

I like this shot a lot, a bit different than the usual grasshopper photo, a nice head-on portrait. Nice and sharp too.

Hi Richard,
This is very impressive! I wish I have a macro lens that could do the job like yours. You have a great kit (1D mark III, ouch!) This is an excellent capture with perfect DOF, details, colors and pose. I have never seen a yellow grasshopper before and none looking angry like this one! Well done!
