[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Today I present a Metallic Ringtail (Austrolestes cingulatus). This species is a medium-sized damselfly with a wingspan of around 40mm. Males are characteristically green and gold, or bluish-green and gold. Females, such as the one illustrated here, are slightly more robust but have similar markings to males but the base colour is more gold and glossy green. There is a thick pale ring at the base of each abdominal segment except the last three terminal segments, which are all dark - so the abdomen tip is all dark. The pale antehumeral stripe does not cross the mesopleural suture. The full forward half of the second abdominal segment is pale.
They inhabit upland bogs and swamps and characteristically perch perpendicular such as illustrated here. They are found only in south-eastern Australia.

It is a very good looking species, Chris.
The combination of colours this female displays is very attractive. The green metallic sheen on the upper abdomen is particularly eye-catching.
Thanks for sharing this sharp and crisp image.
Regards.

Hi Chris.
Brilliant reproduction of the beautiful damselfly and so impressive stem. We can see, even tiniest details of the insect and plant. Lighting and colours are great and BG is superb with its rich colouration and smoothness. Well done and TFS.

Hi Chris,

This is a fine shot of the damsel with tact sharp focus on excellent pov. Amazing sharp details with the background silenced pretty well. I like the stem it is perched as much as the popping compound eye.

TFS and best regards.

Hello Chris, I always get fascinated with damselflies. For their ability to just fly and fly. Also they keep coming back again and again. Lovely tiny fellas with so much amount of energy. your shot shows the perfect shape and the view. Ganesh
