[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Recently, while on a trip down south to Tasmania, i had the chance to see several creatures out in the wild that i never thought i'd see. One of these was an echidna on my second day there... Walking through a forest, i came across an old fallen tree, and along the top was this echidna walking along in search of ants. I was very excited to find this little guy! He really wasn't fussed by my presence, wandering right up and going around me in his ant search. It certainly put a smile on my face.

Echidnas are one of only 2 Monotreme's left... Monotremes are mammals that lay eggs.. Platypus' and Echidnas are the remaining monotremes on this earth so they definitely need to be looked after.

Tasmania is an incredible place.. however, the most heartbreaking thing was the amount of roadkill.. i've never seen so many dead animals in my life! Unfortunately there's always been a fair bit of roadkill, but with the population of the Tasmanian Devil under serious threat, the roadkill is a lot more noticeable these days without the Devils cleaning it up. Very sad..

Hi Gethin,

What a great capture of this Echidna, something I would love to see in the wild. Really well framed on the fallen log and showing the local fauna, and with excellent detail in those sharp quills, t.f.s

Cheers Rick :)

Remarkable.What a wonderful encounter.
Well captured in a natural setting.
The colours are vibrant and natural.

Hello Gethin,
An excellent capture of an Echidna from a great low POV with good sharpness and lighting. An excellent contribution to TN as it is not often seen in the wild.

Hello Gethin,
This is a sight we missed on our visit to Australia! I understand your excitement and you managed to get a very fine capture of this peculiar animal. I like the natural environment with the Echidna nicely in focus.
Sad to hear about all the animals being killed on the roads. Its pretty bad here too, especially as regards Badgers and Red Squirrels.
TFS and regards, Ulla

Hi Gethin,
This is a very interesting capture! I have never seen this animal before. Road kills is a problem very where in the world but I can imagine that it could be worst in this part of the world. I would have tried to compose the picture a little less centered but it remains an interesting one with good notes. Thanks,
Claudine
