This being my 200 post I was looking for something bright and colorful and I don’t think you can go past the Australian King Parrot.

This shot was taken down at the Queen Mary Falls last weekend. The Male Australian King-Parrots are the only Australian parrots with a completely red head.

Females are similar to males except that they have a completely green head and breast. Both sexes have a red belly and a green back, with green wings and a long green tail. King parrots are normally encountered in pairs or family groups.

King-Parrots are found along the east coast and ranges of Australia, ranging from Cooktown in Queensland through to Port Campbell in Victoria. They are usually found in rainforests or wet sclerophyll forests; they forage in trees for seeds and fruit.

King-Parrots lay their eggs on a bed of decayed wood-dust at the bottom of a deep hollow in the trunk of a tree. Often the entrance is high in the tree (10 m) but the eggs are near the ground (0.5 m).

Although King-Parrots appear distinctly red and green to humans, when viewed under ultraviolet light, some feathers on the wings appear with a prominent yellow glow.

Hallo Richard
What a beauty you have chosen to use as your 200th posting. So delightful and lovely. The colours are rich, warm and very striking. Just love the pose of the bird looking at the flower. It is something totally different then what we are used to. The combination of colours is very striking and you have brought it to justice. The eye is also marvellous to look at. Such an explosion of colours on my screen. Congratulations on your 200th posting. It is indeed a great milestone achieved. I'll be a granny when I reach that amount of photos posted. It was indeed a pleasure looking at this image. Best regards.
Anna
ps.Difficult to believe that the colours one see is not always the true colours of the plumage.- Nature is wonderful.

The parrot is shot in top quality details. The daisy in front balances the image well in the frame. Excellent presentation and TFS.

First of all, Richard, congratulations!
200 shows tenacity and dedication ... or, is it a drug! Works for me!

A great shot for this celebration.
The colours are excellent and the details sharp. Is that an everlasting flower, in the b/g, that the parrot looks to be admiring?

Have a good day,
Bev :-)

Hello Richard,
