[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Hi friends, today’s post is a coal fungi (Ramaria sp.), which I found last weekend while hiking near Woodford, around 70km west of Sydney. Despite extensive searching through the literature I have been unable to positively identify this species. It was in dry eucalypt forest with several groups of this species nearby. It is about 100mm high. Thanks for looking.
Shot in RAW then converted to jpeg with Pentax Photolibrary. A mini tripod was used.

So,you're back in Aussie now.

Its a great shot anyway.

Hi Chris

Is a fungus with a beautiful and very curious.
You've captured to perfection, with great detail and great balance of brightness.

I do not know the ID, but it could be that Laszlo (Hormon manyer) can help, he helped me with some mushrooms I posted.

Cheers, good work and thanks for sharing

Jesús

Hi Chris MF,

No, László doesn't help now - he wants but is unable to. I don't know which specie it is - Ramarias are sometimes impossible to identify without microscope. Very unfortunately I feel myself quite weak in that genera, even in our local species, so I can only tell my photographical opinion: very nice pic with wonderful color contrast, fantastic composition and sharpness. Bravo.

About Your possible next trip to Europe, maybe to Hungary also: I'll be very glad if You visit me: come in September and we can go to hunt fungi every day - beside everything else. As You wrote, it's only possible in 2011 or 2012 from Your side, so we have enough time to organize everything. I1m waiting for it.

Best wishes, cheers, László

H my dear friend, an awesome macro of this spectacular mushroom from excellent low POV with nice warm colours and delightful composition.
TFS and cheers,
Bayram

Hi Chris.
What a nice species. Amazing creation of Nature. Crystal details, cleanest colours and exact reproduction of the shapes impress the imagination. Surroundings are so impressive as main subject. Bravo. Nice presentation of the beauty.
Alexei.

Hola Chris:
