I very rarely post an image of a butterfly mainly because even though I try and believe me I do I never seem to capture them at the right moment; just as I approach their off, and the in-flight shot usually ends up being one big blur.

So to say the least I proud of this little fellow for hanging around long enough me to get of a couple of shots before taking off.

Now I’m not 100% certain but I think it’s a Monarch of some description, but it does appear to be missing those distinctive black markings throughout the wings.

I have checked on-line and the only book I have certainly shows it to be a very close resemblance, but I would be grateful if somebody can confirm this.

Details; Shot Raw and converted to Jpeg, cropped and re-sized, and sharpened for posting.

Hello Rick,
A fine butterfly capture! This is a Lesser Wanderer, or Plain Tiger (Danaus chrysippus). This is fine specimen but it suffered a little accident when drying out after emergence to cause the two bare bumps on the wings.
This is a sharp shot taken from a great POV against a nice OOF natural BG. I like the diagonally placed dried rush stem that it is sitting on and it adds to the composition.
Australia has some attractive species of butterflies: it would be nice to see more taken by you!
Thanks and have a good weekend,
Cheers,
Ivan
