I have posted pictures of the Australian King Parrot before so at the risk of repeating myself here are a couple of facts on this beautiful bird.

The male Australian King-Parrot is the only Australian parrot with a completely red head. Females are similar to males except that they have a completely green head and breast.

Both sexes have a red belly and a green back, with green wings and a long green tail. King parrots are normally encountered in pairs or family groups.
Having said that this is the first time I’ve managed to capture a pair together.

They are found along the east coast and ranges of Australia, ranging from Cooktown in Queensland through to Port Campbell in Victoria and are usually found in rainforests or in wet sclerophyll forests.

They lay their eggs on a bed of decayed wood-dust at the bottom of a deep hollow in the trunk of a tree. Often the entrance is high in the tree (10 m) but the eggs are near the ground (0.5 m).

Details; Shot Raw and converted to Jpeg, cropped slightly and re-sized, re-sharpened for posting.

Hi Rick,

How wonderful to capture this beautiful King Parrot couple in one frame! The colors of both are amazing and you show excellent details of their faces, eyes, beaks and feathers. The only way to see parrots in the wild - and what a strange sight it is at first. Here we only get to see them in cages.

Jane

Hello Rick,
Seem to have missed your latest but would like to say that this is a great illustration of the Australian King Parrot, both male and female being shown from a great POV with excellent sharpness and colours against the OOF vegetation BG.
Thanks for sharing this,
Cheers,
Ivan
