[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Sitting around 4 metres up the gum tree is a laughing kookaburra which has changed from a fluffy baby to this rather less fluffy adolescent around 3 years old. He used to sit with his parents but now usually alone, mayby taken over the territory for itself.
Unsure if male of female, if someone knows, please advise.

The "Laughing Kookaburra" is known by its name for its "laugh" which it uses to greet its mate after periods of absences. It can be heard at any time of day but most frequently shortly after dawn and especially when the colour drains from the forest after sunset.

One bird starts with a low, hiccupping chuckle, then throws its head back in raucous laughter: often several others join in. If a rival tribe is within earshot and replies, the whole family soon gathers to fill the bush with ringing laughter. Hearing kookaburras in full voice is one of the more extraordinary experiences of the Australian bush, something even locals cannot ignore; some visitors, unless forewarned, may find their call startling. WS has an earlier photo of this bird when it was much younger. It seems to enjoy sitting on the same branch.

Hi Murray,

Well composed and good color tone/sharpness!
I like natural tone as well as this black-white lovely bird. And, it's good macro size for bird and good contrast between the front and the background.

Thanks for sharing!

Regards,
mikio

Hello Murray,
I love this one, so cute, but I can also well remember its loud voice! :-) Excellent close capture of this one in profile showing great details and natural colours. A very nice composition too.
TFS and regards, Ulla
