[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Shell Beach is part of the world heritage area Shark Bay. Imagine you're at a beach with no sand - but countless tiny shells about half of the size of your smallest finger nail! That's Shell Beach. The water of Shark Bay si shallow and highly saline, and together with the high temperatures generates ideal breeding conditions for shells. Shell predators cannot cope with them and so the shells can live virtually untouched. Strong winds single out the shells and deposit them with each tide on the beach. Layers are known to build up to 9 metres and the total length of all Shell beaches is about 110 KM.
At some places they even get industrially harvested and used for the building industry but up till today they recover faster i.e. fade away than they get harvested. It is hard to make a photo that shows the tiny shells as well as the dimension of the beach and since these little things are shiny and white they easily look like normal white sand on most pictures.

This one is difficult to capture, I know, been there and tried. Thank you so much for reminding me of a beautiful place, I enjoyed a breakfast picnic there at the beach and afterwards waded through the turquoise waters of the shallow bay. I have never seen anything remotely like it.
Kind regards,
Gabi

That is so interesting, Thomas. You did a great job of capturing the shells on the beach as well as give a scope of the beach. It is a challenge, and I can imagine that the whiteness of the shells makes it very hard to get the right exposure, and you did fine. It is quite a sight. Next time you can post another picture in the workshop to give another view of your subject.
Well done and TFS. : )

Hi Thomas

This will be a quick critique as I am running late today. Good shot. Nicely composed with an excellent POV. Perfect clarity and sharpness. TFS
